Get to know Yamaha Artist and Trumpet Player Ingolf Burkhardt

Statement about your relation with Yamaha or your instrument:

I have been working with Yamaha for over 10 years, a period of time in which I have also changed and developed as a musician and trumpeter. The resulting technical changes to the instrument are always absorbed, adapted and supported by Yamaha - a very big, important factor in being able to make my music at the highest possible level - thank you!

How would you characterise your instrument?

What I like best is the direct response and the "slots", i.e. the "locking in" of the notes. If you don't get a few notes right, it's really up to you.

Who was your most influential teacher and is there any advice which you still follow?

The most important teacher was definitely Bobby Shew, who taught me his "Yoga Breath" breathing technique, which I always use.

Advice for a young musician:

My advice to young musicians? Practise, people! Don't let the sensory overload on the internet upset you and work on the right things.
